When needing a photorealistic 3D world, After Effects isn't usually the first program that comes to mind. Typically a 3D modeling/animation program is necessary to create virtual 3D worlds, but in this article CreativeCOW contributing editor Bill O'Neil demonstrates creating a 3D world for a TV spot he was hired to direct and post for the Big Ten Basketball Conference.

CE Time Shuffle
In this video tutorial, Jerzy Drozda Jr (aka Maltaannon) demonstrates time jittering effects using one of his presets. You may have seen this effect in movies like The Ring, The Cell, or Fight Club. You may still create this kind of effect simply by playing with the TimeRemap function, but it's much easier using this preset.

Making 3D Text
When Motion3 was released and after the initial excitement had died down, it became obvious that there were a few features that hadn't made the release. One of the first to be highlighted by the many forum posts was the lack of 3D text. In this short tutorial, CreativeCOW leader, Peter Wiggins gives you some help in building 3D text in Motion.

discounts
for errors
What is everyone's experience with a situation where
there's been an error like this and the clients
request for a discount? I know I didn't have to
do any of this, but if not I would lose a very good
client.I'm assuming it's a case by case thing, but
would like to hear others' experiences.

Weirdest
Rendering Problem Ever
I come to you with the weirdest problem I ever had
in After Effects 7 :
When I start a render it work fine for a moment
and then the image starts to get all blury and dark
and starts blinking ! It is something I've never
seen before. My computer was absolutely stable before
today ! I tried to un-pick the effects one by one
in order to isolate the problem but even without
effect the problem is still present ! It makes absolutely
no sens to me.

textures
Once again I'm up against the problem of trying
to add a texture map from a picture which has an
alpha channel. I can create an object of the right
shape in zaxwerx but it will only accept .jpgs,
and they will always have big black areas (or whatever
other color I fill the original alpha area with).
Do I have to spend the rest of my days trying to
learn Maya or is there another way? (I've got Poser,
but want to use textures from my own stuff.)

Matching
HVX-200 with SDX-900 Framesize
Question. I shot with a SDX-900 at DVCpro 50 / 16x9 / 30P. I also shot a HVX-200 to P2 card at DVCPro 50 / Letterbox / 30P. The HVX-200 when downloaded to FCPro gave me a smaller over all frame size when laid over the SDX Footage. Should I have shot squeezed on the HVX? I think I experienced this problem once before with the DVX-100.
